One important non-core vaccine is Leptospirosis. This bacterial disease is spread through the urine of infected wildlife—especially raccoons, opossums, and rodents—and can contaminate standing water, soil, or even grass in your backyard. Dogs can become infected just by drinking from or sniffing these areas.

Leptospirosis is also zoonotic, meaning it can spread from pets to humans, posing a serious risk to families. Because of Florida’s frequent rains and thriving wildlife population, we strongly recommend discussing this vaccine during your pet’s next visit.
